The 5th of September marked the day that I graduated from Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts, and also the day that I was offered representation from my new agent: Gregory Russell Management! Since then I've had to face the scary world of reality and gotten myself some proper jobs, which mainly include teaching drama to groups of children. Meeting new children always involves some awkward staring and various degrees of skepticism as to whether or not they can trust someone with only one hand. Though I have now found the foolproof way to combat any comments (showing them that I, their one handed teacher, can do a cartwheel) the children can still surprise me, mostly for the good, with their comments and understanding. My favourite from this week has to be whilst at an after school club; one girl asked, after I'd showed them and explained why I had one hand, if I could cover it up again. Before I could even respond another girl in the group piped up: "we're in drama, just pretend she has a real hand!" A perfect response, one that I doubt many adults would be able to come up with so efficiently - and also one that I will be stealing and putting into my arsenal!
