Last week I went to Bristol University after being asked to do a talk about Disability in the Arts with the members of the drama society as a part of their 'Stereotyped' week - a week of conversations and exploration of all groups in society that frequently are misrepresented or just left out of Theatre, TV and Film.
It was lovely meeting everyone and we had a great discussion about what it's truly like being a disabled actress in the 21st century. Questioning have things really changed and what steps should we be looking to take to progress in the future. As a discussion with mainly able-bodied students I thought topics came to light that were extremely necessary to talk about - if these conversations aren't being had by ALL, not just other disabled artists, how is change going to happen?
A thought-provoking day, thanks for having me Bristol University!
